This is a snippet from yesterday’s scentwork session with Fi. I was surprised at how quickly she got it, despite my accidental cuing. This is such a small thing that doesn’t look like it has much application in the “real world,” but it’s an excellent low-effort, low-stress way to interact while still challenging the horse’s brain, and another way to build focus and resilience (as long as you quit before your sucky pellets lose their appeal). Plus really delightful for me when she gets it!
- Started with her, so I was experimenting more than I did with Siri
- A little over 10 mins for this session
- Started the same way as last time - present only “hot” container (with the scent), then added the dead container for discrimination
- Less accidental cuing on my part than with Siri, though still some, but it’s less influential and she chooses the hot container more often
- Should have presented further from my body so she didn’t have to step forward (into her bucket)
- She got bored after about 10 mins, plus the new bag of timothy pellets sucks - really dusty and doesn’t smell as nice
